Texas Education Agency
The Texas Education Agency (TEA, each letter pronounced separately), is a branch of the state government of Texas. It is based in Austin. On November 7, 2007, Christine Comer resigned as the director of the science curriculum after more than nine years. Comer said her resignation was due to pressure from officials who claimed she had given the appearance of criticizing the teaching of intelligent design.
The Texas Education Agency has exercised poor oversight of alternative certification training programs for teachers, according to a state auditor’s report scheduled for release today. These alternative education programs are important because they provide training for about half of all new teachers entering the classroom each year.
In accordance with the Texas Government Code, ยง2001.039, the Texas Education Agency submits the following plan for review of their rules. Please note that amendments to rules specified in the plan may be proposed at a different date through a separate rulemaking process. Specifically, the SBOE intends to conduct a more comprehensive review of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills separate from this sunset review. This comprehensive review of the curriculum content will be designed to align the adoption of textbook proclamations with amendments to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
